COMANCO Provides Reliable Containment Solutions for Idaho Mine Site
COMANCO recently completed a liner installation at a phosphate mine for a valued repeat client. This project focused on restoring full containment within an active mining environment while maintaining strict safety and compliance standards. Despite challenging winter conditions, the project was completed at 100 percent, reinforcing COMANCO’s commitment to quality, safety, and environmental protection.
Containment Built for Long-Term Durability
The scope of work included installing multiple geosynthetic materials to provide long-term containment and protection against exposure to phosphoric acid. The completed installation consisted of over 7,000 SF of 100 mil HDPE geomembrane, more than 7,000 SF of 16 oz non-woven geotextile, over 1,000 SF of 250 mil double-sided geocomposite, and more than 5,000 SF of 60 mil double-sided textured HDPE. Each component was installed with precision to ensure system integrity and long-term performance within the phosphate mining environment.
Adapting Safely to Winter Conditions
One of the unique challenges of this project was completing the liner installation during cold winter conditions. Crews adjusted daily operations to account for low temperatures and weather-related delays, including periods of rain. Regular breaks and careful monitoring of site conditions helped ensure safe working practices while maintaining installation quality.
Leadership, Compliance, and Execution
The project was managed by Superintendent Martin Calderon Jr., who coordinated field activities and ensured compliance with all project specifications. Maintaining ISNetworld compliance was a key factor in continuing work with the general contractor, Stoneridge Contracting, and meeting site requirements. This continued compliance highlights COMANCO’s ability to support repeat clients while aligning with evolving safety and contractor standards.
