New Central Florida Landfill Cell, Part 2: COMANCO Makes Progress on Liner Installation
We are excited to report another update from the COMANCO crew working on the 20-acre landfill cell in Central Florida. The first stage included excavating nearly 95,000 CY of dirt to ensure the grade was at the design elevation. (Visit Part 1) Once the site was cleared and shaped, our crew began the liner and pipe installation process.
Several kinds of liners from Solmax are being used for this geosynthetic system. The materials include 60mil black textured liner, GCL, Geocomposite, and Geotextile. The crew has finished installing approximately 800,000 SF of the 60mil liner. They are now working to finish installing the Geocomposite, about 600,000 SF in total, over the next few days.
Additionally, COMANCO is responsible for installing and connecting control panels to the existing leachate storage tanks. This stage required 1,232 LF of piping and has since been completed. Ultimately, this piping system will help monitor leachate flow for the landfill.
