The ten-man COMANCO crew, led by Superintendent Martin Calderon and Project Engineer Kip Thompson, continues the liner installation of five separate vertical expansion ponds at a borax mine in Southern California. The crew has completed four of the ponds and is halfway through installation of the fifth pond. The crew has produced impressive results installing over 1,400,000 SF of 60mil Smooth White Conductive HDPE Liner; 1,400,000 SF of 200mil Geonet; and 759,000 SF of GCL for this project. Over 23,200 SF of 60mil Textured HDPE Liner and 14 HDPE pipe boots have also been installed. Spark testing utilized for leak detection has been performed on all the secondary and primary layers of conductive white liner installed in each pond.
The crew has done an outstanding job staying ahead of schedule, in spite of constant high winds and high temperatures. More importantly, they understand the importance of safety and have performed with no incidents. The client is pleased with the efficiency and the attention to safety shown by the COMANCO crew and we look forward to seeing the progression of the project as it reaches the final stages of completion.
