Detailed tie-ins and careful crew coordination support industrial containment beneath a new concrete slab
COMANCO recently completed an HDPE liner installation in Idaho supporting pre-condenser improvements at a facility where the company has successfully performed work on multiple occasions. While the scope involved a relatively small containment area, the project required the same technical expertise, attention to detail, and quality workmanship that larger industrial and mining containment systems demand.
The completed liner system helps protect the soil beneath a new concrete slab while supporting the facility’s long-term environmental containment objectives.
Structural foundations, concrete interfaces, and limited working space shaped the crew’s approach to the installation. Several design changes required additional coordination to ensure the project was completed safely, efficiently, and according to specifications.
Integrating HDPE Liner with Concrete
COMANCO installed approximately 1,500 SF of 60-mil, double-sided textured HDPE liner from AGRU. Embedded Tri-Lock connections extended around the containment perimeter.
The crew used extrusion welding to tie the geomembrane into those connections, completing approximately 200 LF of tie-in welding. Each tie-in formed part of the transition between the liner and the surrounding concrete.
Although the installation footprint was modest, these detailed connections required specialized geomembrane installation experience and careful execution. Projects like this demonstrate that containment performance is often determined by connection details and workmanship rather than liner area alone.
This work integrated the geomembrane into the industrial pre-condenser foundation system. Coordination with other trades helped the crew manage the installation within the available space.
For facility owners, the project highlights why liner area alone does not describe installation complexity. Concrete interfaces, tie-in welding requirements, and limited work zones often require experienced crews capable of delivering precise containment solutions.
Supporting Industrial and Mining Containment Across the Western United States
This project also highlights COMANCO’s ability to support both large-scale and smaller specialty containment projects throughout the Western United States.
Operating from its Elko, Nevada office, COMANCO provides responsive service to customers throughout the mining and industrial sectors. This regional presence allows the company to efficiently support repeat customers with liner installations, inspections, repairs, maintenance, and containment upgrades, regardless of project size.
Many containment systems require ongoing support throughout their operational life. By maintaining a strong presence in the West, COMANCO can quickly mobilize experienced crews to help customers protect critical infrastructure and maintain environmental compliance.
Coordinating Installation and Quality Checks
Superintendent Martin Calderon Murillo and Leadman Esteban Solano guided the field installation. Their experience helped the crew understand the connection details and carry out the work smoothly.
Project Manager Michael Taylor and Project Engineer Jose Martinez also supported the project team. The crew coordinated with site personnel and nearby trades to work safely within the limited space while maintaining project schedules.
COMANCO’s quality control procedures include inspections of liner placement, welding operations, seam integrity, and detailed connection points. These checks help verify conformance with project specifications and support long-term containment performance.
The Purpose Beneath the Slab
COMANCO completed its scope and left the customer satisfied. The HDPE geomembrane helps prevent process-related liquids from migrating into underlying soil, supporting environmental protection beneath the new concrete slab.
The liner’s role continues long after construction ends, helping facility owners maintain containment performance, protect surrounding resources, and extend the reliability of critical infrastructure.
For industrial and mining facility owners, this project demonstrates why successful containment systems depend on more than just liner square footage. Concrete interfaces, perimeter tie-ins, quality welding, and experienced installation crews all play important roles in long-term system performance.
