COMANCO Delivers Precision Geomembrane Liner Installation for Specialized Testing Facility

Installing a high-quality containment system requires absolute precision, especially when working within unique structural constraints. COMANCO recently completed a specialized geomembrane liner installation in Florida, providing the foundational groundwork for an advanced excavation testing program.

While many geomembrane liner installations support landfills, wastewater facilities, and industrial containment projects, this project required COMANCO to work within a highly specialized testing environment supporting advanced research and development activities. The unique nature of the facility demanded precise planning, strict quality standards, and a customized installation approach to meet project requirements.

The project involved installing Solmax 60-mil textured geomembrane liner inside a large, enclosed testing tent facility. Operating within a finite indoor footprint required close coordination, technical adaptability, and strict adherence to site safety protocols.

Managing Indoor Geosynthetic Installation Constraints

Geomembrane deployment typically takes place in open outdoor fields, ponds, or landfills. Installing liner inside an enclosed structure presents distinct operational challenges, including limited overhead clearance, controlled access points, and restricted equipment maneuverability.

Unlike traditional outdoor containment projects, the enclosed testing facility left very little room for material staging, equipment movement, and panel deployment. Every step of the installation process had to be carefully planned to maximize available space while maintaining efficiency, safety, and installation quality. Projects like this demonstrate COMANCO’s ability to adapt geosynthetic construction methods to challenging environments and specialized engineering applications.

To navigate these constraints, Superintendent Josh Philhower and the COMANCO crew performed precise material measurements outside in a designated staging area before carefully transporting the geomembrane inside the tent facility. The team accounted for the facility’s large open end doors to manage equipment access and material movement without disrupting ongoing site operations.

By developing a field-specific material handling sequence, COMANCO ensured that panel layout, deployment, and wedge welding proceeded smoothly within the confined footprint.

Overcoming Steep Vertical Slopes and Custom Anchoring

The testing pond feature presented a steep 90-degree slope drop to the floor, requiring specialized care during deployment and extrusion welding.

Working closely with site representatives, COMANCO established custom anchoring methods tailored to the facility’s specific structural design. The crew safely navigated the steep slope while maintaining complete seam integrity and strict quality assurance.

In total, COMANCO installed approximately 5,800 square feet of Solmax 60-mil textured liner across the testing area, ensuring a durable, impermeable barrier built to withstand rigorous operational demands.

Successfully installing geomembrane liner systems on steep vertical transitions requires experienced personnel, specialized welding techniques, and strict quality control measures. Maintaining seam integrity across these challenging conditions was critical to delivering a containment system capable of supporting the facility’s long-term testing objectives.

Specialized Projects Require Specialized Expertise

Not every containment project follows a standard design. Research facilities, testing environments, industrial operations, and infrastructure projects often require custom installation methods that go beyond traditional geomembrane deployment.

COMANCO’s experience installing geosynthetic systems in unique environments allows our teams to adapt to specialized project requirements while maintaining the same commitment to safety, quality, and performance found on every project. Whether working in open containment areas or enclosed testing facilities, COMANCO delivers solutions tailored to each client’s operational needs.

Built on Safety, Quality, and Service

Safety remains COMANCO’s highest priority on every job site. Before starting work, the crew completed all required site-specific background badging, conducted daily safety briefings, and walked the site together to review hazards, access points, and installation procedures.

Thanks to thorough planning and team communication, the project was completed with zero safety incidents.

Whether constructing expansive containment facilities or completing specialized indoor installations, COMANCO brings decades of technical expertise, adaptability, and field commitment to every project.

From landfill and wastewater containment systems to highly specialized testing facilities, COMANCO continues to demonstrate its ability to install geomembrane liner systems in some of the most technically demanding environments. Projects like this showcase the adaptability, problem-solving, and field expertise that have made COMANCO a trusted geosynthetics contractor throughout the United States.
