COMANCO Completes a New Landfill Cell in Palatka, Florida, for Managing Construction and Demolition Debris.
One of our latest turnkey geosynthetic installations was for a Construction and Demolition (C&D) facility in Palatka, FL. COMANCO constructed a new 9-acre landfill cell for a client to manage construction and demolition debris. The project included:
- Preparing the subgrade.
- Installing multiple layers of geosynthetic liner.
- Installing a piping system.
- Covering the final product with a layer of topsoil.
This process required over 13,000 tons of gravel to prepare the subgrade alone. The crew then installed a multi-layer geosynthetic system consisting of 468,000 SF of 60MIL HDPE Textured Liner, 37,200 SF of Bentoliner, 468,000 SF of FabriNet 340 MIL DS 6oz, and 18,000 SF of Mirafi S800 8oz Textile. That’s more than 990,000 SF of liner installed by this crew!
The project also required the installation of 400 LF of underdrain pipe, 600 LF of HDPE Perforated pipe 8″, 120 LF of HDPE Solid Pipe 8″, and 280 LF of 24″ HDPE Solid Pipe. This piping system collects rainwater that comes in contact with waste for safe removal without affecting the surrounding area. COMANCO procured materials from ISCO Industries, Conrad Yelvington, and Solmax throughout this project.
General Superintendent Bill Newman and his crew communicated frequently to ensure job site safety. They overcame excessive rain and prevented weather delays with diligent dewatering and excavation. The cell is nearly complete as the crew finishes the protective cover, conducts final surveys, and schedules the final walkthrough with the owner.
