Florida Gov. Rick Scott, Major Austin Clopeck, and other leaders gathered in Plant City last Wednesday for a Florida National Guard deployment ceremony.
The ceremony was held at the historic Milton E. Hull Armony on the Plant City Strawberry Festival Grounds. Members of the 3rd Battalion, 116th Field Artillery Regiment of the Florida National Guard are being deployed to Southwest Asia. Dozens of family members and supporters were in the crowd to send them off. These brave men will be away from home for over a year. Preparation for their deployments is the reason behind the additional training requirements beyond the conventional “two weeks a year.” These men and women are from all over the state of Florida, and we’re very proud of them.
When not performing his duties in the National Guard and as a Project Engineer with COMANCO, Austin participates in the U.S. Army Field Artillery Association Florida Chapter (Gator Redleg) and National Guard Association of Florida.
