COMANCO has completed the removal of the rain flap in Cell 7 at Cedar Trail Landfill in Bartow, FL. The rain flap is a temporary lined berm crossing the width of the cell, that is originally installed during the construction of the cell. It allows the landfill to discharge any water within the upstream side of the cell as storm water, while the downstream side is active. COMANCO excavated down to the connection, cut out the rain flap, connected the upstream side of the leachate collection composite to the downstream side composite, and replaced the gate valve with a portion of pipe to create a continuous leachate collection pipe. The project, which was led by Superintendent Arnulfo Martinez and Project Manager Dan McRae, was completed on schedule and with zero safety incidents.
