COMANCO Completes Multi-Layer Lining System at JED Leachate Storage Facility

COMANCO finished out the year with a geosynthetics installation project at the JED Landfill in St. Cloud, Florida. The scope of work included the installation of a multi-layer geosynthetics system containing GCL, three layers of 60 mil textured HDPE geomembrane, 8-oz/sy non-woven geotextile, and double-sided geocomposite (bottom) in three ponds comprising a leachate storage facility. In addition, two  ponds received a floating cover liner which was also made of 60 mil textured HDPE geomembrane.

By the numbers, the crew installed a total of 118,000 SF of GCL, 354,000 SF of geomembrane, 53,430 SF of geocomposite, 64,572 SF of geotextile, and 79,089 SF of floating cover geomembrane. The crew began work at the end of November 2012 with the deployment of GCL and geomembrane, and by the first week of December, geocomposite was being installed. Finally, the crew installed the floating cover in a matter of two days at the beginning of this month.

The COMANCO crew, led by Project Superintendent Arnulfo Martinez, Project Manager David Barnett, and Project Engineer Nick Bridges, finished with zero incidents, on schedule, and under budget.
