COMANCO Completes 9 Acre Coal Ash Combustion Waste Storage Pond

by

COMANCO recently completed a 9 acre coal ash combustion waste storage pond in Central Florida.  The pond consisted of a 4-layer geosynthetic system comprised of a secondary 80mil HDPE liner underneath a layer of geonet and double-sided geocomposite and a primary layer of 80mil HDPE liner underneath a layer of single-sided and double-sided geocomposite.  The storage area is made up of two identical 4.5 acre cells, that each have their own leak detection and leachate collection sumps.

COMANCO finished up the installation by installing an 18″ protective soil cover layer over the geosynthetics prior to soil cement being placed over all work. The crew worked relentlessly to install the 36 acres of total geosynthetics, but never sacrificed safety or quality. COMANCO completed the project without a single safety incident!  The crew was led by Superintendent Juan Gomez and Project Manager Dan McRae.
