COMANCO Attends 2024 FLSME Scholarship BBQ, a Fundraiser for Local STEM Education and the Mining Industry
Over the weekend, COMANCO employees Shujwana Lamy and Superintendent Gerardo Ruiz attended the Florida Section for the Society for Mining, Metallurgy & Exploration (FLSME) Scholarship BBQ. The annual event is vital in supporting STEM education in DeSoto, Polk, and Hardee counties and funding activities for students at the University of Florida SME Student Chapter.
Selling tickets to the annual BBQ is a significant fundraising activity for the FLSME Student Relations Program, which provides scholarships to deserving high school seniors and mini-grants to teachers developing mining-based courses. The program also supports science fairs in the region by offering supplies and judges.
