The comprehensive scope of work includes construction of the landfill’s final cover system, installation of critical leachate and landfill gas infrastructure, stormwater management improvements, and final site restoration. Delivering a Complete Landfill Closure Solution
Landfill closure is much more than placing a cap over waste. It requires a carefully engineered system designed to manage water, control landfill gas, and protect surrounding soil and groundwater.
As part of this project, COMANCO will perform:
- Construction and installation of the leachate toe drain system (LTDS)
- Supply and placement of the grading layer, protective cover soil, and topsoil
- Installation of the landfill gas (LFG) collection and control system
- Construction of the final cover system, including geomembrane and geocomposite drainage layers
- Installation of the surface water management system
- Regrading of the stormwater perimeter ditch, final sodding, and other site improvements
Each component plays an important role in creating a stable, compliant landfill closure system that minimizes environmental impact while supporting long-term performance.
Supporting Beneficial Reuse Through Landfill Gas Collection
One of the most significant aspects of this project is the landfill gas collection and control system.
Rather than simply flaring—or burning off—landfill gas, this facility is designed to capture the gas, transport it through an engineered piping network, and deliver it for treatment. Once processed, the recovered landfill gas becomes a primary fuel source for the site’s Biosolids Processing Facility.
This process, known throughout the industry as beneficial reuse, transforms a naturally occurring landfill byproduct into a valuable renewable energy resource.
