COMANCO Wrapping Up Critical Landfill Closure with Proven Containment Solutions
COMANCO is nearing completion of a landfill closure project in Florida. This project, led by Superintendent Alejandro Loza Solis and Foreman Chad Kendall, is designed to safely contain residues from a coal thermoelectric generation process. The crew has shown exceptional resilience and dedication, navigating unpredictable weather conditions to keep the project on track.
Full Coverage Achieved with Geosynthetics
Despite delays that pushed the schedule into Florida’s rainy season, our team has successfully installed 100% of the required materials. This includes over 1.38 million SQ FT of Atarfil 60-mil textured HDPE liner. A matching 1.36 million SQ FT of Skaps TN330-2-8 double-sided geocomposite was also installed. In total, this project covers approximately 31 acres with each material.
Strategic Stormwater Diversion
One of the unique aspects of this landfill closure was the successful diversion of the rain shed before the mid-year mark. By doing so, the team ensured that clean stormwater was directed to the environment without coming into contact with coal ash residues. Furthermore, this proactive approach not only prevented contamination but also supported regulatory compliance and environmental stewardship.
