Earlier this week, COMANCO Environmental commenced construction of a new 12-acre cell to an existing landfill in Southeast Florida. COMANCO was hired to strip the existing surface, provide structural fill and a 1′ base layer of clean soil to get to the proposed geosynthetic sub-grade. Other key items included in the project’s scope of work include: – Demucking designated areas of the cell; – A 24″ HDPE pipe gas header system including 2 gas condensate sumps which will tie-in to the site’s existing gas collection system; – A leachate collection system (LCS) consisting of HDPE pipe & river gravel wrapped in geotextile within the cell’s limits; – A concrete structural pad with a leachate transmission manhole where the LCS sump riser clean-outs will terminate; – Installing 2′ of protective cover soil material over the new geosynthetic system. Below are photos from the 1st week of construction.
