Today, we want to showcase our COMANCO Superintendent, Jorge Gomez Ruiz, Gerardo Ruiz, and Foreman, Pablo Medina. They were observed committing a SAFETY ACT this month!
While completing a landfill project in Southwest Florida, both gentlemen completed an outstanding safety act and took it upon themselves to provide shaded cover for their crew. They furnished a canopy where team members could enjoy micro-breaks from the blistering Florida sun. In addition, they supplied fully stocked coolers with water and sports drinks to keep the team fully hydrated.
The Importance of Safety Acts in Florida’s Hot Temperatures
Extended exposure to the sun and extreme temperatures can bring about a wide variety of heat-related illnesses and several safety concerns. Outdoor exposure to heat on a job site can be responsible for accidents through sweaty and slippery palms, dizziness, fatigue, decreased alertness, and the fogging of safety glasses or goggles. Furthermore, the physical discomfort caused by prolonged exposure to sunlight can increase irritability, anger, and other emotional states that sometimes cause workers to overlook safety procedures or may divert attention from hazardous tasks. And in some cases, mental capacity may also be affected.
