COMANCO Environmental has broken ground on the first phase of a new C & D Landfill being constructed in St. Augustine, Florida. Superintendent Chase Yarbrough and an eleven man crew will be responsible for preparing over 320,000SF of subgrade for the construction of the new landfill’s first cell. In order to prepare the subgrade, the crew will excavate and/or cut 83,000+ cubic yards of material from the site and bring in 90,000+ cubic yards of fill. The crew will also be responsible for building roads around the site for easy access.
In addition to the earthwork going on at the site, the crew will be installing the Geosynthetics (HDPE geomembrane, geocomposite & GCL), HDPE leachate collection & forcemain piping, concrete stormwater piping & structures & placing sod. Currently, the crew is working on stripping and excavating organic material from the site so that the clean, structural fill material can be brought in to build up the cell. Dewatering operations at the low lying areas of the site are taking place in order to prepare the subgrade for density testing. Furthermore, site clearing activities such as tree removal, underbrush clearing & mulching are concurrently in progress by another contractor so COMANCO can perform its job duties. Crews from both companies are working together to provide the customer with unmatched quality and service all while maintaining a safe and environmentally friendly work environment.
