COMANCO Continues Final Closure Lining Project to Enhance Environmental Protection
COMANCO continues to make significant progress on a large-scale final closure project involving the lining of ditches and roads to complete a previous stack closure. Foreman Mancilla and Leadman Lopez lead a dedicated team focused on safety, quality, and efficiency throughout every phase.
Advancing Closure Efforts
The crew is currently focused on lining the 60mil mid-slope ditches and corresponding roads. Previous stages have already seen the successful completion of the upper slope ditch and road, two 60mil ramps, and a 40mil road connecting the ramps. Additionally, two 40mil ponds, including Pond 2 Ditch and the East Ditch, have been completed. Both feature gas venting strips with geocomposite for optimal performance.
The crew will move forward with lining the 40mil stormwater ditch to advance the closure process further.
Utilizing High-Quality Materials
This project incorporates a variety of premium liner materials and geosynthetics, supplied by trusted partners Solmax and Skaps. So far, COMANCO has installed:
- Solmax 40mil HDPE: 568,161 SF
- Solmax 60mil HDPE: 415,593 SF
- Skaps 10oz Geocomposite: 77,000 SF
- Skaps 12oz Geotextile: 58,600 SF
With multiple liner types and geosynthetic layers, the project involves extensive tie welding and coordination between multiple contractors operating in the same area.
