Last week, COMANCO Environmental wrapped up a two-part landfill project in Punta Gorda, FL. A new 34-acre sub-grade expansion was established and a 4.5-acre partial closure was completed. The expansion area had to be cleared, grubbed and stripped down then leveled out before 184,000 tons of soil were imported for the sub-grade surface. The sub-grade material was placed and compacted in two 12″ lifts. The existing C & D waste in the closure portion was graded to a design grade followed by 2′ of protective cover soil being placed over it. It was then sodded and two 12″ corrugated HDPE downchutes were installed for stormwater run-off. Supervisor, Chase Yarbrough led the efforts in the field.
