COMANCO completed a landfill project this week in central Florida. The 19-man crew, led by Superintendent Tony Sanchez has installed over 3.7 million square feet of liner consisting of a five layer geosynthetic system over 17 acres. The crew utilized custom roll lengths in order eliminate seams on slopes. This installation project also utilized new COMANCO designed equipment such as the liner winch, lighter spreader bar, and liner torpedoes. The COMANCO designed equipment stresses our continued goal for safety and efficiency.
The pond was lined with five layers total: 777,726 s.f. of Geosynthetic Clay Liner, two layers of 60-Mil HDPE Geomembrane totaling 1,563,821 s.f., two layers of Geocomposite totaling 1,531,510 s.f., and 2500 l.f. of protective rain flap. After the installation was complete, 2′ feet of protective cover soil was placed on top of the geosynthetic to complete the new landfill construction. The installation also included the fabrication and welding of three 24” pipe boots that penetrated both the secondary and primary liner as well as an 8” pipe boot in the primary liner.
The team completed this project well ahead of schedule and with no safety incidents.
