Construction has begun on a project to make improvements to an existing treatment pond at the Florida Caribbean Distillers facility in Auburndale Florida. COMANCO is currently in the process of removing the existing liner and residual sludge and restoring the pond bottom to the original grades. Improvements to the existing pond include: increasing the pond capacity by raising the pond perimeter, re-lining the pond with 60 mil HDPE liner, adding geocomposite venting beneath the liner to prevent gas buildup, and the addition of concrete Uniform Section Mat (USM) covering the bottom of the pond to prevent uplift from aerators. Project is scheduled for completion late August.
