COMANCO Environmental is in the process of constructing a 6-acre landfill expansion in Wauchula, FL. Deployment of the GCL, secondary 60-mil HDPE geomembrane & secondary double-sided triplanar geocomposite layers has recently commenced. These are the first 3 components of a 5 layer geosynthetic system to be installed. They will be followed by a another 60-mil HDPE geomembrane and a biplanar geocomposite – primary layers.
Prior to the liner system going down, the site had to be stripped, cleared and constructed to a prepared sub-grade surface. A leachate collection system will also be installed once the liner is down. This will consist of 8″ to 12″ HDPE pipe wrapped in a gravel / geotextile “burrito” all flowing to a sump system. 2′ of protective cover soil material will be placed over the geosynthetics when complete and a protective rain tarp will go over the existing landfill for watershed. Please see below for some progress photos.
