Last week, COMANCO attended the (FPPC) Florida Phosphate Political Committee Spring Conference in beautiful Boca Grande, FL. COMANCO President Mark Topp, Marketing Director Christine Thomas, Vice President Larry Holmes & wife Lori along with Project Manager Dan Ward attended this 3-day event which was held at the Gasparilla Inn & Club on Gasparilla Island. This location is chosen each year because of the rich history tied to Boca Grande, and the phosphate industry. In 1911 an automatic transloader was built at Port Boca Grande, the first of its kind for phosphate in the United States. For the next 50 years, phosphate would be shipped out of the state-of-the-art port virtually without disruption.
This year, the Conference focused on ‘Managing Business in a New Political Environment.’ The attendees listened to keynote speakers from all over Florida including Florida Commissioner of Agriculture Adam Putnam, FL State Park Service Specialist Robert Longo, National Safety Council Sr. Director of Research & Safety Management Solutions Jonathan Thomas and several industry professionals from the phosphate industry.
On Thursday, the guests were treated to ‘Game Night’ which included a friendly game of Bingo and Friday night ended with an Ice Cream Social and Casino Night.
As part of the conference experience, each year COMANCO sponsors the Boca Boat Tour along with Dale C. Rossman, Inc. and Florida Dredge & Dock. This year, the boat attendees were treated to a relaxing day along the Gasparilla Sound as they cruised along to Cayo Costa State Park.
COMANCO would like to thank the FPPC Board for hosting this special event each year to help bring more awareness to the phosphate industry. The FPPC Board is comprised of leaders in our industry who are a critical component of ensuring our voice is heard in the phosphate industry.
