COMANCO Leaders Attend FMI Project Manager Academy in Tampa
COMANCO continues to invest in leadership development and cross-functional understanding. Recently, four COMANCO leaders, Joshua Philhower (Superintendent), Anthony Cole (Fleet Supervisor), Jorge Gomez (Superintendent), and Thomas Topp (Vice President), attended the FMI Project Manager Academy in Tampa, Florida, for four days of focused training and professional development.
While these leaders may not serve in Project Manager or Project Engineer positions themselves, the academy provided a valuable opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of the responsibilities, expectations, and challenges that come with these critical roles. Throughout the four-day program, they were able to explore the work that happens behind the scenes to successfully manage a project, from planning and communication to coordination, leadership, and execution. For our field and operational leaders, understanding the Project Manager and Project Engineer perspective helps strengthen the connection between the office, field, fleet, and construction leadership. It provides greater insight into why certain information is needed, how decisions impact different areas of a project, and how each role contributes to keeping our projects moving forward safely and successfully.
Bringing leaders from different areas of COMANCO into this type of training also creates an opportunity to look beyond individual responsibilities and better understand the bigger picture. When our teams understand not only what others do, but also why they do it, we can communicate more effectively, collaborate more efficiently, and provide stronger support across departments.
The FMI Project Manager Academy was another opportunity for COMANCO to invest in our people while continuing to develop leaders who understand the many moving parts behind a successful project. By learning together and gaining insight into one another’s roles, we continue building stronger teams and a stronger COMANCO.
