Deere-Hitachi Construction Machinery Corporation is a midsize excavator manufacturing facility located in Kernersville, NC. As a joint venture company formed in 1988 between John Deere and Hitachi, they manufacture two different brands of excavators – John Deere and Hitachi. The facility has expanded over the years and now occupies a remarkable 145 acres and 1.3 million square feet of production under roof. COMANCO Fleet Supervisor Tony Cole and Heavy Equipment Technician Juan Gonzales visited the facility as the guests of Dobbs Equipment.
Tony and Juan were given a private tour which consisted of following the manufacturing process, from raw materials to walking the excavators out of the building. They were both amazed at how this facility receives large plates of steel and can bend, break, weld, machine and ultimately form the finished product; all done in-house. Similar to COMANCO, it is abundantly evident that they are dedicated to quality, service and above all, the safety of their employees.
Following the tour, they were presented with a demonstration of some of the equipment used by COMANCO.
After a full day at the factory on Friday, we were treated to the NASCAR All-Star race at Charlotte Motor Speedway with Richard Petty. Life cannot get much better than Saturday night racing with “The King”.
