Last week, COMANCO Environmental started the deployment of the GCL and secondary HDPE geomembrane layers for the 5-acre cell expansion to Seminole Electric’s coal ash landfill in Palatka, FL. These are the first two layers of a 5 layer system to be installed. Supervisor, Jorge Gomez, is leading the efforts of the 12-man crew in the field keeping production up while maintaining a safe working environment. During the prior weeks leading up to liner installation, COMANCO hauled approximately 65,000 tons of clean fill material to build the cell up to a design subgrade. Once the geosynthetics are installed, another 17,000 CY of protective cover soil will be imported to create a 2′ protection barrier over the liner. Please see below progress photos of the work leading up to geosynthetics deployment.
