The Heap Leach Pad mining project near Fairbanks, Alaska has recently been completed. This project included installing over 2,100,000 square feet of linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE) 80-mil geomembrane as well as over 28,000 square feet of geosynthetic clay liner (GCL). This project was challenging for the COMANCO team with work on steep slopes with limited visibility at times and heavy equipment traffic and weather conditions. COMANCO has now completed 4 stages over the past several years with no incidents or lost time injuries. Congratulations go out to Superintendent Martin Calderon & crew for the excellent work and keeping Safety Priority #1. A mine representative had this to say when the project wrapped up:
“During the 2013 campaign to install and repair the Liner on the Stage 4 Heap Leach. Martin and his crew were absolutely the greatest to work with. On the job ready to go each morning. Willing to take on almost any activity to promote the scope forward. It was a pleasure to work with the crew under the leadership of Martin. He was very well organized each day for the start of each shift. He had all the equipment in the right places each day and his crew was well briefed on the days activities. I would look forward to working with Martin and his crew anytime in the future. Martin would be an asset to any company based on his work ethics and skills.”
