Phase II Closure Project Completed by Florida Crew
COMANCO’s Florida crew completes Phase II closure project with another major milestone achieved safely and successfully in the field. Led by Superintendent Gerardo Ruiz and Foreman Fredy Serrano, the crew recently celebrated the completion of Phase II during a team luncheon recognizing the hard work, dedication, and teamwork required to complete this demanding closure project.
The Phase II closure project included the installation of approximately 46 acres of geocomposite, 60mil textured geomembrane, and wind ballast systems designed to support long-term environmental containment and closure performance.
Field Performance and Installation Success
Throughout the Phase II closure project, the Florida crew worked through challenging weather conditions, including extreme heat and frequent lightning common during Florida summers. Despite those conditions, the team maintained a strong commitment to safety by conducting regular hydration breaks, monitoring weather activity closely, and following COMANCO safety procedures every day.
The quality of the installation work was equally impressive. The crew successfully achieved 177 passing destructive tests (DTs), demonstrating the team’s attention to detail and commitment to proper geomembrane welding and installation standards.
Teamwork and Safety in the Field
This Phase II closure project reflects the importance of experienced field leadership and collaboration among crew members. Superintendent Gerardo Ruiz and Foreman Fredy Serrano helped guide the team through daily production goals while reinforcing COMANCO’s culture of safety, communication, and accountability.
Projects involving geomembrane closure systems require precision, consistency, and constant quality verification. By maintaining strong communication between field crews, quality control personnel, and project leadership, the team was able to complete the work efficiently while protecting installation quality.
Transitioning into the Next Phase
With the successful completion of the Phase II closure project, the Florida crew has already transitioned into Phase I activities on the next portion of the project. Lessons learned during this phase will continue helping the team improve efficiency, maintain safety standards, and deliver high-quality containment solutions.
Closure systems like these play an important role in protecting the environment by helping contain waste materials, controlling erosion, and supporting long-term site stability. COMANCO remains committed to delivering reliable environmental construction services through experienced crews and proven installation practices.
