New Landfill Cell in Central Florida Nears Completion
The New Landfill Cell in Central Florida is entering its final stages as COMANCO crews continue making strong progress on-site. Crews are currently placing Fabriform® within the perimeter swale while also completing the final installation of protective cover materials and leachate collection piping throughout the project area.
This important environmental infrastructure project will help improve waste management capacity while protecting surrounding groundwater and ecosystems through advanced containment and drainage systems.
New Landfill Cell in Central Florida Construction Progress
As work continues on the New Landfill Cell in Central Florida, crews are focused on several key components needed to bring the project to completion. The perimeter swale system is being reinforced with Fabriform®, which provides long-term erosion control and stability in areas exposed to water flow and storm events.
At the same time, crews are finalizing installation of the protective cover layer designed to safeguard the underlying geosynthetic liner system from damage and environmental exposure. These systems work together to ensure long-term durability and performance of the landfill cell.
New Landfill Cell in Central Florida Leachate System Installation
An important feature of the New Landfill Cell in Central Florida is the leachate collection system. Upon completion, crews will have installed approximately 1,400 linear feet of leachate collection piping throughout the site.
This system is designed to safely collect and transport liquids generated within the landfill, helping prevent contamination of nearby soil and groundwater resources. Proper leachate management plays a critical role in maintaining environmental compliance and supporting safe landfill operations.
In addition to piping installation, crews have also placed nearly 33,000 cubic yards of sand as part of the protective cover and grading operations across the 11-acre landfill cell.
The New Landfill Cell in Central Florida will provide long-term environmental protection while increasing operational capacity for the site.
