Project in Utah Continues With Major Geosynthetic Installation Progress
COMANCO crews continue making strong progress on a large-scale Project in Utah located in South Jordan. Led by Superintendents Pablo Medina and Carlos Garcia, the team is working on a complex 10-acre environmental containment system that includes multiple layers of advanced geosynthetic materials across several sections of the project.
This Project in Utah involves specialized liner systems designed to improve containment performance, drainage control, and long-term environmental protection. Through careful planning and precise installation methods, COMANCO crews continue delivering quality workmanship while maintaining strict safety standards throughout the jobsite.
Multi-Layer Geosynthetic Systems Installed Across Site
The northern and southern slopes on the Project in Utah each contain a carefully engineered multi-layer geosynthetic system. These slope systems include:
- 6-ounce geotextile cushion layer
- Reinforced GCL middle layer
- 60mil white HDPE geomembrane top layer
The cell floor utilizes a different configuration that includes a reinforced GCL bottom layer, a 60mil HDPE white geomembrane middle layer, and a geocomposite drain net top layer to improve drainage and containment performance.
Each component plays a critical role in protecting the containment system while supporting long-term environmental compliance requirements.
Leachate Pond Construction Adds Additional Complexity
Adjacent to the cell floor, the Project in Utah also includes construction of a leachate pond with a four-layer containment system. This portion of the project consists of:
- Reinforced GCL primary bottom layer
- 60mil HDPE white primary geomembrane
- Reinforced GCL secondary layer
- 60mil HDPE white secondary geomembrane
The multi-layer leachate pond system is designed to provide enhanced environmental protection and leak prevention for long-term operation.
Overall, the project scope includes installation of:
- More than 561,000 square feet of reinforced GCL
- More than 561,000 square feet of 60mil HDPE white geomembrane
- Over 270,000 square feet of geocomposite
- Approximately 172,000 square feet of geotextile
COMANCO Crews Continue Efficient Progress
The COMANCO crew has already completed substantial portions of the Project in Utah, including:
- More than 335,000 square feet of GCL installed
- More than 335,000 square feet of geomembrane installed
- Nearly 60,000 square feet of geocomposite installed
- More than 113,000 square feet of geotextile installed
The project also requires excavation of approximately 1,930 linear feet of anchor trench and 1,470 linear feet of tie-ins to the existing containment cell.
Despite the complexity of the installation, crews continue progressing safely and efficiently while maintaining COMANCO’s commitment to Safety, Quality, and Service.
