Geosynthetic Liner for Stormwater Management at Central Florida Power Plant
Multiple COMANCO crews, led by Supervisor Jonathan Mitchell, continue making strong progress on a Geosynthetic Liner for Stormwater Management project at a power plant in Central Florida. The project includes excavation, lining, and protective cover installation for a stormwater holding pond, transfer ditch, and two collection ditches designed to improve water management and environmental protection.
This Geosynthetic Liner for Stormwater Management system will help separate non-contact stormwater runoff from process water while improving discharge efficiency and reducing long-term water treatment demands.
Geosynthetic Liner for Stormwater Management Supports Environmental Protection
Each stormwater basin and ditch within the Geosynthetic Liner for Stormwater Management project is being constructed with multiple layers of geosynthetic materials to provide containment, erosion control, and long-term durability.
The system includes:
- Geotextile underlayment
- HDPE geomembrane liner
- Geocomposite drainage materials
- Protective cover soil
- Fabriform and sod erosion control systems
In addition, the stormwater structures are connected through HDPE pipe culverts and reinforced concrete structures that help efficiently direct and manage stormwater throughout the site.
A reclaimed asphalt pavement (RAP) access road is also being constructed adjacent to the stormwater systems to improve long-term site accessibility and maintenance operations.
Stormwater Management Improves Water Separation Efficiency
Projects involving a Geosynthetic Liner for Stormwater Management system are essential in industrial facilities and power plants because they help prevent contamination while improving environmental compliance.
Proper stormwater management allows facilities to:
- Separate clean stormwater from contact water
- Reduce treatment and storage requirements
- Improve water discharge efficiency
- Protect surrounding groundwater systems
- Minimize erosion and sediment transport
Once complete, this upgraded stormwater system will allow the client to divert, store, and discharge stormwater more effectively while reducing the volume of process water requiring treatment.
COMANCO Maintains Quality Through Challenging Conditions
Throughout the Geosynthetic Liner for Stormwater Management project, COMANCO crews have continued working safely and efficiently despite multiple challenges, including difficult Florida weather conditions and complications caused by the Coronavirus pandemic during construction operations.
Even with these obstacles, crews remained focused on maintaining the company’s core values of Safety, Quality, and Service. The team continued moving the project forward without sacrificing quality standards or cutting corners during installation.
COMANCO’s commitment to quality assurance is reflected in the project’s outstanding performance results, including zero failed destructive tests on the installed geosynthetic liner systems.
