COMANCO Begins Phase One of Innovative Landfill Closure System Installation in Jacksonville, Florida
COMANCO is underway with Phase One of a multi-phase landfill closure project in Jacksonville, Florida, delivering expert geosynthetic installation services designed to protect the surrounding environment and support the long-term performance of the containment system.
Led by Superintendent Carlos Garcia and Leadman Amancio Chavez, the crew is currently in the early stages of the project, focusing on the installation of critical geosynthetic materials that will serve as key components of the landfill’s final closure system.
Advancing a Multi-Phase Landfill Closure
This landfill closure project has been divided into four phases, with COMANCO currently executing the first phase of installation. The work involves the placement of multiple geosynthetic materials supplied by AGRU, including:
- 40-mil LLDPE geomembrane
- 200-mil geocomposite
- 300-mil geocomposite
The project calls for approximately 1,735,000 square feet of each material. To date, the crew has successfully installed:
- 276,427 square feet of 40-mil LLDPE
- 284,183 square feet of 200-mil geocomposite
- 135,158 square feet of 300-mil geocomposite
As installation progresses, the team continues to prioritize quality workmanship, safety, and adherence to project specifications.
A Trusted Partnership
What does a successful long-term partnership look like? For this project, it’s the continued confidence of a valued repeat customer who once again turned to COMANCO for geosynthetic installations and repair services.
Relationships like this aren’t built overnight—they’re earned through dependable performance, proven expertise, and results that stand the test of time. COMANCO is proud to be a trusted partner, working alongside our clients to support their environmental protection goals and deliver solutions they can rely on, project after project.
An Innovative Approach to Closure Design
What truly sets this project apart is its forward-thinking closure system design. Instead of relying on traditional landfill closure methods, this system incorporates a down-drainpipe terrace approach—bringing a new level of complexity and precision to geosynthetic installation.
With innovation comes both challenge and opportunity. This unique design calls for seamless integration of geosynthetics throughout the process, putting the expertise and adaptability of COMANCO’s field crews on full display.
Every detail matters. Careful coordination and precise installation are essential to ensure each component performs exactly as intended within the terrace drainage system. It’s this level of attention and technical skill that transforms a complex design into a successful, high-performing solution.
Protecting the Environment for the Long Term
The geosynthetic materials being installed play a critical role in the landfill’s environmental protection strategy. Once completed, the closure system will help prevent contaminant migration and reduce the risk of toxic material leaking into surrounding soil and groundwater.
By delivering high-quality geosynthetic installation services, COMANCO continues to help clients meet environmental compliance requirements while safeguarding natural resources for future generations.
As work advances through the remaining phases, COMANCO remains committed to providing safe, efficient, and reliable solutions that support long-term environmental stewardship.
