Over the past 2 years, COMANCO has been replacing 60 mil HDPE Smooth geomembrane liner for the Water Conserv II project located in Orlando, Florida. The Water Conserv II project was formed as a partnership between the City of Orlando and Orange County in order develop a water reclamation program. The system provides agricultural irrigation in the area, as well as recharging the Florida aquifer via Rapid Infiltration Basins (RIBs). Each RIB is comprised of several lined cells built over a layer of permeable clays that work as a barrier separating shallow groundwater flow within the sands from deeper, confined flow in the Floridian aquifer.
COMANCO has completed replacing the liner in 53 cells to-date, and will complete the final 8 cells this summer. The project team for COMANCO has been led by project superintendents Jorge Barrantes and Larry Graham. Also working on the project are Civil Engineering graduates Mohammad Lutfiyya (USF) and Matt Remmert (UF).
COMANCO is working for Woodard & Curran, the operators of Water Conserv II. You can learn more information about the project at https://waterconservii.com/.
