COMANCO Secures Waste-to-Energy Landfill with Rain Tarp Installation
COMANCO Superintendent Todd Kirkman and his crew are hard at work deploying additional rain tarps with ballast tires over a Waste-to-Energy (WTE) ash landfill in Florida. The site, surrounded by dense pine forests, utilizes durable white geomembrane liners to safely contain non-hazardous ash from nearby incinerators.
Protecting the Environment, One Layer at a Time
The team follows a precise and proven process to ensure long-term containment and stormwater control:
- Unroll high-grade rain tarps over exposed landfill cells
- Weld seams to create watertight seals
- Secure tarps with recycled tires spaced every 10–15 feet, tied together using ropes or seatbelt webbing
This system prevents stormwater infiltration and leachate migration, both critical factors in Florida’s high-water-table environment. With the state leading the nation in WTE operations, facilities like this reduce landfill volume by up to 90% while also generating renewable energy.
Safety, Quality, and Service in Every Step
As the rainy season comes to an end, COMANCO is already preparing for next year’s storms. Todd’s team is locking it down and sealing it up, working safely, maintaining quality, and staying within the customer’s budget.
COMANCO is proud to support sustainable landfill management and energy recovery efforts that protect Florida’s environment while powering its future.
