COMANCO Environmental has wrapped up a 6-acre acre Ash Monofill Closure project in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. COMANCO used the site’s existing ash and balanced it to a design subgrade without having to import any additional materials. The subgrade was then proof-rolled before a textured 40-mil HDPE geomembrane cap was deployed. Thousands of feet of webbing, sandbags and posts were then installed to provide ballast to the temporary HDPE cover. A 450’ long x 30’ wide road extension was installed as the final part of project to maintain access for the facility. Two feet of road base – placed in 1’ compacted lifts – was placed with a 1.5” asphalt layer capping it off.
Superintendents, Chase Yarbrough & Larry Graham, did a great job maintaining a safety-first mindset while keeping a productive project with varying crew sizes that reached up to 20 employees during certain operations.
