COMANCO Team Trains on New CAT D1 SSLGP Dozers

Last week, our field team completed hands-on training with the new CAT D1 SSLGP (Super Super Low Ground Pressure) Dozers with Ring Power instructor Blake Conwell. The training gave operators the opportunity to become familiar with the machines’ capabilities and prepare for the specialized work they’ll perform on active projects.
Built for Challenging Ground Conditions
The CAT D1 SSLGP Dozers are specifically designed to operate in extremely soft, wet, and unstable ground conditions where traditional equipment may struggle.
Each machine is equipped with:
- 39-inch-wide tracks
- Approximately 2.3 PSI ground pressure
- A 4-way blade for greater versatility and control
This configuration helps distribute the machine’s weight over a larger surface area, reducing ground disturbance while maintaining the ability to efficiently move material.
Supporting Specialized Geosynthetic Installation
The new dozers will play an important role on the OGS-N project, where they’re being used to carefully push fingers of sand onto high-strength geotextile fabric.
Because the machines exert such low ground pressure, they can work on sensitive surfaces with minimal disruption. This helps protect the underlying geosynthetic materials while allowing crews to safely and efficiently place material where it’s needed.
