COMANCO crew members have begun covering the site of Mississippi Phosphates in Pascagoula, MS.
Turfing the site is now underway in Mississippi.
The project site – a massive 3 million sf space, will be laid in segments: first with a sealed 50 mil geomembrane and then another 3 million sf of ClosureTurf® above. Finally, sand will be used to ballast the site against heavy stormwater.

Phosphate mines produce several byproducts, and over 3 million sf of Geomembrane will be installed at this site to help stop exposure to rain and elements, preventing leakage and runoff.
To stave off exposure to the elements, team members on-site are provided chilled drinks, watermelon, and appropriate head and face protection.
Protecting the Land
COMANCO field personnel also received new on-site training in laying and securing the new turf that will be applied to the site. This turf adds additional protection over the Geomembrane and insulates against heat and other elements.
Efforts like this help protect the landscape and ecology of the surrounding areas, in addition to meeting the standards of safety and quality called for in the protection of mineral sites.
