Superintendent LeRoy Smith and his ten man crew completed a 7 acre landfill capping project earlier this month. The 295,500 square foot cap system included a geosynthetic clay liner layer on the subgrade and a 40-mil textured LLDPE geomembrane primary layer on top. The cap itself was enclosed on north, east and west ends producing almost 2,500 linear feet of extrusion weld tie -in. The crew also installed 200-mil geocomposite for future down chute and diversion berm locations that spanned about 465 linear feet a piece; intended for surface water conveyance. Located right on Lake Michigan, this crew had to battle high winds and rain throughout the duration of this project. Supervision did a great job maintaining COMANCO’s high level of safe work practices during these tough conditions. They also did a great job traversing the cap location with tough access points, fully utilizing a competent spotter system. Please see some photos of the project below.
