This past Monday, COMANCO Environmental commenced construction of a 5-acre Coal Ash Landfill expansion in Palatka, FL at the Seminole Generating Station. As always, an extensive on-site safety meeting and site walk-through were held with the entire construction team prior to starting work. Site layout, stripping, grubbing, excavating, filling, hauling, placing and compacting soil are some of the early activities that will take place during the first portion of the 5 month project.
Once the site is brought to a design sub-grade elevation, a 5 layer geosynthetic system will be installed. A GCL, a primary & secondary 60-mil HDPE geomembrane and a primary & secondary double-sided geocomposite will make up the 5 layer system. 2′ of clean protective cover soil will then be placed over the liner system followed by sod.
