Seatbelts… Would it have made a difference?

by

I want to tell you about my brother, Rob.  He was 32 years old, an IT guy that worked for an oil company in Houston, Texas.  He liked to watch Texans NFL games and was an avid runner among other hobbies.

Rob passed away on October 19, 2013 around 8:00 p.m. from a car accident.  There were no witnesses to the crash so what happened is not certain but from reports, he was not wearing a seat belt.  He was only one block from his apartment complex, so the assumption is:  Rob took off his seatbelt since he was so close to his apartment.

Now the question I keep asking myself is:  Would it have made a difference?  Truthfully, I don’t know if he would have survived if he were wearing a seatbelt.  What I do know is that it would have definitely given him a better chance.

Maybe if he had worn his seatbelt, I could still call him on the phone and joke with him or enjoy the good times we always had when he came over to the West Coast to visit.  So I want you all to remember the next time you or anyone else you’re driving with decides not to wear a seatbelt that it CAN happen to you.

An accident can affect more than just you;  it will also affect your spouse, your kids, your friends and so many more people in your life.  Just like the rest of our safety culture at COMANCO, don’t act safely and wear a seatbelt MOST of the time;

Act safely and wear a seatbelt ALL of the time.
