COMANCO Revitalizes Land O’Lakes Water Pond for Environmental Protection

COMANCO revitalizes the Land O’Lakes reject water pond in Pasco County, Florida, helping improve environmental protection and maintain regulatory compliance for critical water treatment operations. Properly maintained reject water ponds are essential for supporting water treatment systems, protecting surrounding environments, and ensuring long-term operational sustainability.

Land O’Lakes Water Pond Liner Replacement

COMANCO has an ongoing agreement with Pasco County to inspect, repair, and replace geomembrane liner systems as needed throughout the county’s facilities. In this case, the reject water pond at the Land O’Lakes Wastewater Treatment Plant had reached the end of its service life and required a complete liner replacement.

The project involved replacing the existing liner system with approximately 173,600 square feet, or nearly four acres, of 60-mil textured HDPE geomembrane supplied by Solmax. The upgraded liner system helps prevent leaks, improve containment performance, and support continued regulatory compliance for the treatment facility.

Environmental Construction and Site Preparation

The scope of work included removing vegetation, debris, and sediment buildup from the pond before demolition and disposal of the old liner system. Once site preparation was complete, COMANCO crews began installing the new geomembrane liner system after all fabrication certifications received county approval.

Superintendent Larry Graham and crew managed mobilization and site preparation while coordinating lockout and tagout procedures to safely isolate the pond from the plant’s active water treatment system. Superintendent Gerardo Ruiz and Foreman Juan Morales later assisted with installation activities to help complete the project efficiently and safely.

Long-Term Protection for Pasco County Operations

With the new liner system fully installed, tested, and approved, the reject water pond was successfully returned to operation for Pasco County’s wastewater treatment process. All welds underwent testing and quality assurance inspections before anchor trenches were properly backfilled and finalized.

This Land O’Lakes water pond project demonstrates COMANCO’s continued commitment to delivering high-quality environmental construction solutions that help municipalities maintain compliance, protect natural resources, and improve long-term infrastructure performance.
