New Landfill Cell Florida Project Begins in North Florida

COMANCO crews are officially underway on a New Landfill Cell Florida project located in North Florida. This large-scale environmental construction effort includes installation of a complex geosynthetic containment system designed to support long-term landfill operations while protecting surrounding groundwater and environmental resources.

The New Landfill Cell Florida project represents another example of COMANCO’s commitment to delivering high-quality geosynthetic installation services safely and efficiently.

New Landfill Cell Florida Project Includes Large Geosynthetic Installation

The scope of the New Landfill Cell Florida project requires installation of more than 1.5 million square feet each of 60mil HD White Reflective Geomembrane and 330mil double-sided 8oz nonwoven geocomposite materials.

In addition, crews will install approximately 30,000 square feet of 16oz nonwoven geotextile along the slopes to provide additional cushioning protection for the geomembrane liner system.

These geosynthetic systems work together to:

  • Prevent groundwater contamination
  • Improve leachate containment
  • Increase landfill durability
  • Support long-term environmental compliance
  • Protect underlying soils and subgrades

Proper installation of these systems is critical to maintaining the integrity and performance of the landfill cell over time.

Protective Sand Cover Supports Long-Term Performance

As part of the New Landfill Cell Florida project, the geosynthetic liner system will be protected with a two-foot-thick sand cover placed throughout the 17-acre landfill cell.

This phase of the project includes hauling and placing more than 72,587 cubic yards of sand material across the site. The protective cover layer helps shield the liner system from damage while supporting operational traffic and future landfill activities.

Environmental containment projects of this scale require careful coordination between earthwork operations, liner deployment, drainage systems, and protective cover installation to ensure long-term success.

COMANCO Crews Continue Progress Despite Florida Weather

With the combined efforts of Superintendents Tony Sanchez and Martin Calderon, along with Foreman Carlos Garcia and Leadman JJ Mitchell, the New Landfill Cell Florida project is already off to a strong start.

Crews have successfully installed:

  • More than 379,000 SF of geomembrane
  • Over 235,000 SF of geocomposite
  • Approximately 13,300 SF of geotextile

Despite challenging Florida summer rain conditions, crews have continued moving the project forward safely and efficiently with zero incidents reported thus far.

COMANCO remains committed to upholding its core values of Safety, Quality, and Service while delivering reliable environmental construction solutions throughout the United States.
