Storage Ponds Closure Project Completed in Central Florida
Superintendent Arnulfo Martinez and his COMANCO crew have successfully completed a closure project on two storage ponds in Central Florida. This storage ponds project required extensive geosynthetic liner installation and close coordination with earthwork operations to ensure long-term environmental protection and site stability.
HDPE Liner Installation for Storage Ponds
The 18-acre site required more than 770,136 square feet of single-sided textured 40-mil HDPE geomembrane liner to cover both ponds. Proper liner installation is critical for closure applications because it helps minimize infiltration, controls potential environmental impacts, and supports long-term site management objectives.
In addition to the liner installation, the crew installed 11 gas vents throughout the project area. Each vent was welded to an HDPE plate and integrated into the liner system to allow gases generated beneath the cover system to dissipate safely and efficiently.
Environmental Construction Expertise
The earthwork contractor completed grading activities and prepared the subgrade before installing the protective cover system. Close coordination between crews helped maintain quality standards and keep the project moving efficiently.
