Safety During Liner Installation at Gopher Resources Facility

Safety During Liner Installation remained the top priority as COMANCO crews completed geosynthetic liner work at the Gopher Resources Facility in Tampa, Florida. Superintendent Josh Philhower and Safety Officer Todd Klementz worked closely together to ensure every crew member followed strict safety procedures while operating inside a hazardous industrial environment.

The project required extensive planning and monitoring due to potential exposure to toxic lead particles and extreme heat conditions inside the facility. COMANCO crews followed detailed safety protocols designed to protect workers while maintaining efficient progress throughout the liner installation process.

Specialized PPE and Respirator Protection

One of the most important aspects of Safety During Liner Installation at the facility was respiratory protection. Every employee onsite completed fit testing for full-face respirators before beginning work. These respirators helped prevent inhalation of hazardous lead particles that may have been present during construction activities.

In addition to respirators, employees wore multiple layers of protective personal protective equipment (PPE), including:

  • Protective gloves
  • Rubber boots
  • Full-body coveralls
  • Eye and face protection

This PPE system helped minimize direct contact exposure while maintaining compliance with industrial safety requirements and environmental regulations.

Heat Stress and Employee Safety

Another major challenge impacting Safety During Liner Installation was the high heat index inside the building. Wearing full protective equipment in elevated temperatures created additional physical demands on crew members throughout the workday.

To address these conditions, Safety Officer Todd Klementz carefully monitored employee exposure times and scheduled routine cooling breaks. A designated decontamination and cooling area allowed workers to safely remove protective gear, cool down, hydrate, and recover before returning to work activities.

This proactive safety approach helped reduce the risk of heat-related illnesses while ensuring workers remained alert and protected during all phases of installation.

COMANCO’s Commitment to Workplace Safety

Projects like this demonstrate COMANCO’s continued commitment to workplace safety, employee protection, and environmental responsibility. By following strict PPE protocols, monitoring environmental conditions, and emphasizing safety planning, COMANCO helps ensure every employee returns home safely at the end of the day.

Safety During Liner Installation remains a critical part of every COMANCO project, especially when crews operate in hazardous industrial environments that require advanced planning and specialized protective equipment.
