Landfill in Puerto Rico Installation Begins
COMANCO Superintendent Larry Graham, accompanied by Leadman Ramon Irizarry and crew, has begun the first phase of a new landfill in Puerto Rico. This important environmental construction project will provide additional waste containment capacity while helping protect surrounding natural resources through the use of advanced geosynthetic materials.
Geosynthetic System Installation Underway
The first two acres of the new landfill cell consist of a three-layer geosynthetic system designed to provide long-term containment and environmental protection. The system includes a Geosynthetic Clay Liner (GCL), 60-mil White HDPE Textured Geomembrane, and Double-Sided Geocomposite drainage layer.
This engineered liner system is a critical component of the landfill in Puerto Rico, helping prevent seepage while supporting proper drainage and collection of liquids within the containment area. The use of high-performance geosynthetics helps ensure the facility meets stringent environmental and operational requirements.
Leachate Collection Infrastructure Supports the Landfill in Puerto Rico
In addition to liner installation activities, the crew will weld and install the leachate collection piping system. This work includes 6-inch HDPE perforated pipe and 18-inch HDPE riser pipe that will be incorporated into the landfill’s leachate pump system.
