COMANCO Attends FMI Training Programs to Strengthen Leadership and Growth

At COMANCO, strong leadership is the foundation of project success. In our ongoing commitment to professional growth, we recently sent seven team members to three of FMI’s premier leadership training programs – the Construction Executive Institute (CEI), the Emerging Managers Institute (EMI), and the Field Leader Institute (FLI).

FMI’s Construction Executive Institute

In January, Michael Taylor, Senior Project Manager, attended the FMI Construction Executive Institute (CEI) – a high-level program designed to equip construction leaders with advanced financial, strategic, and operational expertise. Through hands-on Construction ProfitAbility™ simulations, Michael refined his ability to:

    • Improve financial control – Strengthening project budgeting and financial decision-making.
    • Enhance risk management – Identifying and mitigating enterprise risks proactively.
    • Optimize project bidding – Strategizing for profitable and sustainable project execution.
    • Develop leadership skills – Fostering team collaboration and effective communication.

With Michael’s experience in environmental construction and geosynthetics, his enhanced leadership capabilities contribute directly to COMANCO’s commitment to safe, compliant, and cost-effective project delivery.

FMI’s Emerging Managers Institute

In mid-February, COMANCO sent three additional team members – Amberlee Johnson, Marketing Coordinator, Anthony Rikansrud, Assistant Project Manager, and Xiomarilys Feliciano Munoz, Training Coordinator – to the FMI Emerging Managers Institute (EMI) in Raleigh, NC.

This intensive three-day program was designed to shape the next generation of managers in the construction industry. Through expert-led workshops and hands-on learning, the team gained critical skills in:

    • Leadership and team dynamics – Strengthening communication and decision-making.
    • Project management strategies – Enhancing efficiency and productivity.
    • Workforce development – Cultivating future talent and organizational growth.

Beyond the training, attendees built a strong network of industry peers, exchanging insights and best practices that will help drive success within their roles at COMANCO.

FMI’s Field Leader Institute

Additionally, at the end of February, three more COMANCO employees attended the FMI Field Leader Institute in Florissant, Colorado. William Newman, General Superintendent, Alejandro Loza Solis, Superintendent, and Billy Menard, Superintendent, participated in this immersive leadership development program focused on enhancing leadership potential at the field level.

The Field Leader Institute provided an interactive experience where attendees engaged in personal assessments, coaching, and feedback exercises to refine their leadership approach. Key skills gained from this training included:

    • Giving and receiving feedback – Strengthening trust and empowering the next generation of leaders.
    • Building high-performing teams – Developing leadership skills to drive long-term organizational success.
    • Creating a strong leadership pipeline – Preparing future field leaders to lower business risk and improve project execution.
    • Enhancing project execution – Increasing leadership effectiveness to improve stakeholder relationships and team engagement.

This program reinforced COMANCO’s commitment to developing strong leadership at every level, ensuring that our field leaders are equipped with the skills needed to drive excellence in environmental construction.
