COMANCO lines the world’s largest lagoon in Southern California as part of the Cotino community development by Storyliving by Disney. This massive 24-acre artificial lagoon in Rancho Mirage highlights COMANCO’s expertise in geosynthetic liner installation, precision craftsmanship, and environmental containment solutions.
Located in the heart of Palm Springs, the project is set to become the largest artificial lagoon in the world and represents another milestone in COMANCO’s growing portfolio of large-scale lagoon construction projects.
COMANCO Lines World’s Largest Lagoon with Advanced Geosynthetics
To ensure long-term durability and water retention, COMANCO installed a sophisticated multi-layer geosynthetic containment system using premium SOLMAX materials. The lagoon bed includes both 40mil and 80mil smooth LLDPE liner reinforced with 160oz geotextile and protective sand layers.
The surrounding beach areas required 80mil textured LLDPE liner to create a safer, slip-resistant walking surface for future residents and visitors. Altogether, the installation required more than 2.4 million square feet of geosynthetic liner materials.
This advanced liner system helps maintain water quality, minimize seepage, and support the long-term structural integrity of the lagoon.
Precision Installation and Skilled Craftsmanship
Projects of this scale demand exceptional accuracy and technical expertise. Every liner panel must be carefully positioned, tensioned, and welded to maintain a seamless waterproof barrier throughout the entire lagoon system.
COMANCO’s crews utilized wedge welding equipment for primary seams and extrusion welding methods to fuse liner materials to the Polylock perimeter system. By carefully eliminating wrinkles and air pockets during installation, the team ensured a smooth finish and long-lasting performance.
