Geosynthetic Materials Used for Landfill Liner Installation
Geosynthetic systems used for lining landfills require significant amounts of different materials. A recent project that involves expanding a landfill by creating a new cell will utilize a total of 216,114 SY of material by its completion. COMANCO has installed the primary liner on the overfill slope and cell floor in addition to the odor mitigation strips on the overfill slope. We are currently installing GCL with a liner cap over the primary layer. Once it is finished, we will install Geocomposite and rain tarp on the overfill slope. The various materials used include:
- 83,580 SY of 250milGeocomposite for the Drainage Layer
- 87,720 SY of 60mil Textured HDPE Liner
- 24,325 SY of 200mil Geocomposite for odor mitigation
- 16,349 SY of Rain Tarp
- 4,140 SY of Geosynthetic Clay liner (GCL)
To combat the Florida heat, the crew set up a canopy inside the cell to provide shade and water close to where the crew is working. As a safety precaution, the team discussed the necessity of staying hydrated and taking water breaks as needed at the morning meeting. Once COMANCO completes this project, our client will have more room to store refuse safely with minimal external impact.
