Landfill Cell in Southwest FL Reaches Major Construction Milestone
Landfill Cell in Southwest FL Moves Toward Completion
Superintendent Jorge Gomez and the COMANCO crew have reached another major milestone on a Landfill Cell in Southwest FL. The team recently completed the installation of the engineered liner system for the 13.7-acre landfill cell, bringing the project one step closer to completion.
The Landfill Cell in Southwest FL includes multiple geosynthetic components that work together to provide long-term environmental protection and reliable containment performance.
Advanced Geosynthetic Installation
The COMANCO crew successfully installed:
- 60-mil HDPE textured geomembrane
- 40-mil HDPE textured geomembrane
- 200-mil geocomposite
- 300-mil geocomposite
- Geosynthetic Clay Liner (GCL)
Each material serves a specific purpose within the engineered containment system, helping prevent contaminants from leaving the landfill while supporting proper drainage and long-term environmental protection.
Overcoming Challenging Site Conditions
Construction on the Landfill Cell in Southwest FL has not been without challenges. Frequent rainfall created changing site conditions that required the crew to continually adapt construction activities while maintaining project quality.
Despite wet conditions, the team remained focused on safely completing each phase of installation. Florida’s combination of heavy rain, intense sunshine, and high humidity also required constant attention to heat stress prevention and employee safety.
Crew members remained hydrated, utilized appropriate safety practices, and adjusted work activities as needed to safely perform their responsibilities.
Protecting Communities Through Modern Landfill Design
Once complete, the Landfill Cell in Southwest FL will provide additional waste disposal capacity for the surrounding community while helping protect nearby soil and groundwater from contamination.
Modern geosynthetic liner systems are designed to safely contain waste materials and prevent environmental impacts through engineered containment technology. COMANCO’s expertise helps ensure these systems are installed to the highest quality standards.
Great Work by Jorge Gomez and Crew
COMANCO congratulates Superintendent Jorge Gomez and the entire crew for their outstanding work throughout this project. Their commitment to safety, quality workmanship, and teamwork continues to produce successful results on complex environmental construction projects.
Congratulations to Jorge Gomez and the entire COMANCO team on another significant project milestone.
