Landfill Project in DeFuniak Springs Moves Forward
Landfill Project in DeFuniak Springs Gets Underway
Superintendent Bill Newman and the COMANCO team are making steady progress on a new Landfill Project in DeFuniak Springs. The project is currently in its early stages, with crews performing the earthwork necessary to prepare the site for the installation of geosynthetic containment systems.
Despite challenging weather conditions, the team continues moving the project forward while maintaining COMANCO’s commitment to Safety, Quality, and Service.
Preparing the Site for Construction
The first phase of the Landfill Project in DeFuniak Springs focuses on cut-and-fill operations that establish the proper subgrade elevation before liner installation begins.
When the crew arrived on-site, they discovered the original clay material had become saturated from extended periods of rainfall. Rather than allowing the project to fall behind schedule, COMANCO utilized specialized equipment and construction expertise to improve the subgrade and prepare the cell for future geosynthetic installation.
This proactive approach allowed work to continue safely and efficiently despite less-than-ideal site conditions.
Cut-and-Fill Operations Support Long-Term Performance
Cut-and-fill construction involves excavating material from one area and placing it where additional elevation or grading is required. This process creates a properly engineered foundation that supports the landfill liner system and helps ensure long-term performance.
Once the cut-and-fill activities are complete, the COMANCO crew will begin fine grading before installing the geosynthetic containment system.
Proper site preparation is one of the most important steps in every landfill construction project, helping provide a stable base for the engineered liner system.
Environmental Benefits of Modern Landfills
The completed Landfill Project in DeFuniak Springs will provide the community with additional landfill capacity while helping protect surrounding soil and groundwater from contamination.
Modern landfill cells rely on engineered containment systems to safely isolate waste materials and minimize environmental impacts. COMANCO’s expertise in geosynthetics and containment construction helps ensure these systems perform as designed for years to come.
Progress Continues
Bill Newman and the entire COMANCO crew remain focused on completing the project safely, efficiently, and on schedule.
