HDPE Rain Tarp Project Completed at Aucilla Landfill

COMANCO Successfully Finishes HDPE Rain Tarp Installation

COMANCO Superintendent Martin Calderon and his crew have successfully completed an HDPE rain tarp project at a landfill in Aucilla, Florida. Through careful planning and execution, the team installed approximately 395,335 square feet of 20-mil HDPE rain tarp across nearly 10 acres of landfill area.

The crew worked diligently to complete the project safely, efficiently, and on schedule while maintaining COMANCO’s commitment to Safety, Quality, and Service.

Project Supports Efficient Landfill Operations

The completed HDPE rain tarp system serves an important role in helping landfill operators manage water and reduce operational expenses. By covering the new disposal cell, the system prevents rainfall from coming into contact with waste materials and creating additional leachate.

Without a protective cover, rainwater that contacts waste materials must often be collected, treated, and disposed of as leachate. These processes can create significant operational costs over time.

Stormwater Management Benefits

One of the primary advantages of an HDPE rain tarp system is its ability to separate clean stormwater from potentially contaminated water. Rainwater collected on top of the liner can typically be managed as stormwater and discharged through approved drainage systems.

This process reduces the amount of leachate requiring treatment while helping landfill operators improve overall site efficiency and environmental performance.

Environmental Protection Through Geosynthetics

Geosynthetic materials continue to play a critical role in modern landfill design and operation. The HDPE rain tarp installed by COMANCO provides temporary protection while supporting long-term environmental stewardship.

By limiting water infiltration into active disposal areas, these systems help reduce environmental impacts and support responsible waste management practices.

Another Successful Project for Martin Calderon and Crew

Martin Calderon and his team demonstrated exceptional workmanship throughout the project. Despite the challenges often associated with large-scale geosynthetic installations, the crew successfully completed the work while maintaining high standards of safety and quality.

COMANCO is proud of the team’s accomplishment and looks forward to continuing to deliver innovative landfill solutions for clients throughout the country.
